Profile
Mandy Sweet
Mandy Sweet is a Canadian performer whose name promises something the portrait refuses to deliver. Platinum bob, dark liner, a red room and no smile at all: the billing says sweet, and the face says otherwise.

Mandy Sweet is a billing that sounds like a girl in a teenage comedy, and the portrait on the record works against it on purpose. The hair is a short platinum bob, parted on the side and turned under at the ends. The eyes are dark brown and the liner is heavy. The mouth is closed and the expression is level, almost cool, and there is no smile anywhere in the frame. That gap between the name and the face is the first thing worth noticing, because it is the gap between a product and a person, and every performer who lasts has one.
The room is dressed like a domestic interior: a deep red wall, a cream lampshade at the upper left, a side table with glassware, a dark red upholstered edge at the lower right. Into that respectable little set she is placed topless, one hand at her hip drawing a pink brief down over the bone. The light is warm and frontal, a flash with a short fall, so the skin holds its colour and the shadows under the chin and the breasts stay soft. A ring on the hand at her hip. The pose is not coy and not aggressive; it is simply presented, the way a catalogue presents a thing.
